چکیده

The 42 amino acid Alzheimer’s Ab peptide is involved in the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Here we describe the effects of intracellular Ab, produced through its attachment to either end of a green fluorescent protein, in yeast. Cells producing Ab exhibited a lower growth yield and a heat shock response, showing that Ab fusions promote stress in cells and supporting the notion that intracellular Ab is a toxic molecule. These studies have relevance in understanding the role of Ab in the death of neuronal cells, and indicate that yeast may be a new tractable model system for the screening for inhibitors of the stress caused by Ab.

Effects of heat stress on proliferation, protein turnover, and abundance of heat shock protein messenger ribonucleic acid in cultured porcine muscle satellite cells.

It is well established that heat stress (HS) negatively affects growth rate in swine. Although reduced feed intake undoubtedly plays a significant role in this reduction, studies in laboratory animals and other nonswine species indicate muscle growth also is affected by HS-related alterations in muscle physiology. Evidence is now emerging that heat shock proteins (Hsp), produced in response to ...

Transcription factor OsHsfC1b regulates salt tolerance and development in Oryza sativa ssp. japonica

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Salt stress leads to attenuated growth and productivity in rice. Transcription factors like heat shock factors (HSFs) represent central regulators of stress adaptation. Heat shock factors of the classes A and B are well established as regulators of thermal and non-thermal stress responses in plants; however, the role of class C HSFs is unknown. Here we characterized the func...

Resveratrol induces antioxidant and heat shock protein mRNA expression in response to heat stress in black-boned chickens.

This study investigated the effects of dietary resveratrol at 0, 200, 400, or 600 mg/kg of diet on the performance, immune organ growth index, serum parameters, and expression levels of heat shock protein (Hsp) 27, Hsp70, and Hsp90 mRNA in the bursa of Fabricius, thymus, and spleen of 42-d-old female black-boned chickens exposed to heat stress at 37 ± 2°C for 15 d. The results showed that heat ...

Prokaryotic Expression of Influenza A virus Nucleoprotein Fused to Mycobacterial Heat Shock Protein70

Background and Aims: The novel approaches in influenza vaccination have targeted more conserved viral proteins such as nucleoprotein (NP) to provide cross protection against all serotypes of influenza A viruses. Influenza specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) are able to lyse influenza-infected cells by recognition of NP, the major target molecule in virus for CTL responses. On the other hand,...

Expression of the activating transcription factor 3 prevents c-Jun N-terminal kinase-induced neuronal death by promoting heat shock protein 27 expression and Akt activation.

Activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3) is induced and functions both as a cellular response to stress and to stimulate proliferation in multiple tissues. However, in the nervous system ATF3 is expressed only in injured neurons. Here we reveal a function of ATF3 in neurons under death stress. Overexpression of ATF3 by adenovirus inhibits the mitogen-activated kinase kinase kinase 1 (MEKK1)-c-J...
